Following on from our ‘launch’ in 2012, we are pleased to be able to present a second season of fresh, authentic music led by women.

Three double bills at the Vortex Jazz Club featuring some of the UK?s finest contemporary jazz groups with support from a younger generation of rising stars.

One small step for woman …

Emily Remembered
Deirdre Cartwright and Kathy Dyson guitars celebrate the life and work of great New York jazz guitarist Emily Remler performing swinging jazz standards, bossa nova, Remler originals and their own compositions.

Alison Rayner double bass, Buster Birch drums.

Their interplay is a delight throughout a varied and consistently
entertaining set‘                                                                                              Chris Parker

Entropi
A new quintet led by saxophonist Dee Byrne (a recent graduate from Trinity College of Music Masters programme) plays original compositions that lend themselves to ?Exploration? ? the title of one of Byrne?s compositions and a manifesto for the group.

Heavy grooves with outbreaks of swing; tight arrangements framing open-ended improvisation and abstract harmony mixed with melodic departures.

Featuring New York trumpeter Andre Canniere, Rebecca Nash piano,
Paul Baxter bass, Matt Fisher drums and Dee Byrne alto saxophone
