TOMORROW THE MOON II
Following on from our ‘launch’ in 2012, we are pleased to be able to present a second season of fresh, authentic music led by women.
Three double bills at the Vortex Jazz Club featuring some of the UK’s finest contemporary jazz groups with support from a younger generation of rising stars.
One small step for woman …
Karen Street accordion with Deirdre Cartwright guitar, Alison Rayner double bass, Paul Clarvis drums.
Virtuoso accordionist Karen Street has worked with many well known British jazz artists including Tim Garland, Mike Westbrook, Martin Taylor, Phil Robson’s Octet and Tina May. Her reputation as a jazz accordionist and composer was firmly established with ‘Accordion Crimes’, her second CD of original compositions and arrangements. Her music is a characterful blend of jazz, flavoured with folk, full of subtlety and passion.
‘Musicians who have given the accordion a genuine voice are rare, but Karen Street is undoubtedly one of them’ John Fordham, Jazz UK
plus Lauren Kinsella’s Thought-Fox is an award winning jazz quintet created by Dublin-born/London-based vocalist Lauren Kinsella. The quintet take their name from a Ted Hughes poem written in his 1957 collection ‘Hawk in the Rain’. The poem is used as a springboard for approaching song and group interplay. Lauren’s use of text brings the listener closer to the music but also serves to explore extended vocal technique, odd-time grooves and traditional jazz harmony.
‘An artist in the complete sense’ Kevin Le Gendre, Jazzwise
‘A completely down to earth and exquisitely vivacious young Irish singer’ Katie Bull, The New York City Jazz Record
