Emily Remembered Anglian Ruskin University

Friday, 17th February 2012
1:00 pmto2:00 pm

Anglia Ruskin University

Cambridge Campus
East Road, Cambridge, CB1 1PT

Gig 1 – 2pm followed by workshop 3 – 4.30pm

More details to follow

Guitarists Deirdre Cartwright and Kathy Dyson met in 1984 and realised that they were the only two professional women jazz guitarists in the UK; Over 25 years later they’re still the only two.

Emily Remembered invokes the spirit of the late great New York jazz guitarist Emily Remler, who died of heart failure at the age of 32 in 1990. Their two distinctive voices on the guitar create an intimate guitar sound performing swing, bossa and bop arranged and written by Remler, as well as their own compositions and jazz standards. The duo’s first album was released earlier this year,

“Their interplay (particularly striking on the album’s closer, ‘Whirligig’) is a delight throughout a varied and consistently entertaining set.”
Chris Parker

“Kathy Dyson and Deirdre Cartwright are both superb players albeit with contrasting styles that, nevertheless, complement each other perfectly. “All The Things You Are” reminded me of MJQ. The interplay between the guitars could have been created by Milt Jackson & John Lewis – that’s how good it was.”
Lance Liddle, Newcastle gig review

Big warm acoustic sound, faultless time, tuning and taste and creative solo ability – clearly belongs in the front rank of contemporary bassists” Digby Fairweather

Metamorphic are a contemporary song-based jazz/folk sextet led by pianist Laura Cole. Their debut album, ‘The Rock Between’, was released to critical acclaim on the F-ire label in April 2011.
