Blow the Fuse Jazz @ Vortex w/Diane McLoughlin

Saturday, 26th March 2011 8:00 pmtoSunday, 27th March 2011 11:00 pm

Saxophonist Diane McLoughlin?s original compositions draw on a wide range of influences from jazz, East European folk song, funky grooves, Latin and Arabic music. Richly melodic, Diane?s writing was described in the Guardian as ?attractively punchy and highly emotive?. Also playing soprano and tenor saxophones, her alto sound has been described by John Fordham as ?vibrating with echoes of Cannonball Adderley.

Special guest tonight on trumpet is renowned musician Nick Smart, who has played with numerous groups such as the Kenny Wheeler Big Band and the Stan Sulzmann Big Band, and is the head of jazz at the Royal Academy of Music.

With Deirdre Cartwright ? guitar, Alison Rayner ? bass, Winston Clifford – drums
